Five
years ago we set out to
reengineer the traditional
poured-in-place product because
of it's many inadequacies. The
following is a list of
objectives that we met with the
development of Playground
Pavement.
1. We need to develop a far
stronger product: A product so
strong that it can be formed and
poured directly over dirt or
gravel. By eliminating the need
for a shock-reducing sub-base,
we could dramatically increase
shock absorbency while reducing
cost.
2. We need to develop a far more
durable product: It does not pay
to have the strongest product in
the world if it rapidly weakens
when exposed to UV rays. The
Achilles' Heel of the
traditional product is the
simple fact that all urethane
binders degrade quickly when
exposed to UV. The life of the
product could be dramatically
increased by developing a UV
polymer that would protect the
binder.
3. We need to develop a product
that can be easily installed by
local contractors instead of
traveling crews.
4. Cost Reductions: By
minimizing labor costs, and by
eliminating travel, concrete,
and virgin EPDM expenses, we can
substantially reduce initial
costs. By dramatically extending
the life of the product, we can
slash long-term costs.
5. Increase Shock Absorbency:
Why only meet today's minimum
safety standards if we can
exceed tomorrow's.
Success:
The
Shock Absorbent Layer
Reengineered: By optimizing the
shape and size of the rubber
pieces we have substantially
increased binder content without
compromising shock absorbency. A
higher percentage of the
strongest binder* in the
business results in a far
stronger product. *Tensile
Strength: 6600 P.S.I.
Elongation: 600%
rubber pieces, we have
created a product that is easier
to install and far less likely
to crack. To provide additional
strength and astonishing
durability, we saturate the
porous wear layer with our,
state of the art, brightly
colored liquid rubber, UV
protective polymer. The liquid
rubber fills the voids as it
penetrates deep into the pores
of the wear layer where it
solidifies, and creates a solid
rubber layer that remains strong
long after the old
poured-in-place product has
crumbled. The underlying binder
is not exposed to the UV and our
product will never fade to black
like rubber tiles do.
Playground Pavement is so strong
and durable that it does not
need, nor do we recommend, a
shock-reducing concrete
sub-base. Playground Pavement
has been installed directly on
top of decomposed wood mulch
fall zones. Our product can
shift, flex, and settle without
tearing or cracking. Ideally,
Playground Pavement is installed
over our Rubber Gravel that is
spread at a rate of 4.25 lbs per
sq/ft. The entire system
includes roughly 11 lbs of
material per sq/ft.
